Media Sterilization
Benefits of Precision Continuous Flow Thermal Processing For Fermentation and Growth Media
Our precision, continuous flow thermal processors deliver specific, optimized, heating that is more uniform, and less destructive to sensitive media than autoclaving, batch heating and traditional continuous flow methods.
Our precision processors:
Are “Green”-their regenerative heating minimizes energy consumption in bother research applications and large volume plant trials
Retain and even increase peak functionality of fermentation and growth media
Produce the highest quality and completely uniform media due to uniform heat exposure
Minimize lost media by matching process flow rate to filling operation
Maximize profits because of energy efficiencies, yield increases, reliability, & ease of use
Fermentation and Growth Media Applications
Our processors use continuous flow thermal process technology to produce sterile or pasteurized:
Fermentation Media
Agar Based Media
Tissue Culture Media
Selective and Differential Media
Stab Media & Slant Media
Liquid Media (broths)
Diluents
Tissue Culture Media
Growth Media
Concept of a Continuous Flow Thermal Process (CFTP)
CFTP systems are completely closed, flow-through systems, designed to heat liquid products like fermentation and growth media to the desired treatment temperature, “hold” it for a specific exposure time and cool it as needed for your next process operation. They most often incorporate a positive displacement pump to regulate product flow, a series of heat exchangers to heat the product, a hold tube to ensure the proper exposure time, cooler(s), and back-pressure valve to maintain product pressure to prevent boiling at temperatures above 100°C (212°F).
CFTPs maximize heat transfer to deliver very uniform and short overall exposure times at elevated temperatures and often use regenerative heating and cooling provide energy efficiency by reclaiming and reusing heat. They can be quite “green”. These processes deliver time and temperature conditions that differ greatly from those of batch processes. They take advantage of reaction kinetics at elevated temperatures that allow the product to be hot long enough for the desired microbial kill and short enough to improve active retention. This provides significant opportunities to optimize conditions to improve existing products greatly over batch methods. They also allow many products, that do not tolerate autoclaving, to be sterilized to high levels of safety assurance.
With over 20 years of experience, MicroThermics understands how to develop and design these processes, the processing systems, and how to conduct research with them. Their continuous-flow nature, elevated temperatures and pressures require special tools for process modeling and validation. We provide processing systems and the tools to support your efforts like in-line sample ports, thermal process evaluation and scale-up services. For ease of use and the closest support possible, our systems are fully automated with touch screen PC/PLCs providing easy operation, data acquisition, and ethernet communication. This provides the ability for us to communicate with your system over the internet, using access granted by your IT department, to monitor your system’s operation and simplify troubleshooting and keep you operational.
